OnePlus 7 - release date, price, specifications

OnePlus 7 release date

We already know some of the key aspects of the next OnePlus flagship from various leaks and rumors that surface from time to time on the internet. Some of the details were provided by the manufacturer himself. The company says its next product will be the winner. Here's everything we think and know about the OnePlus 7.

OnePlus 7 release date

Here's when the previous mainstream OnePlus smartphones were announced (not including the X or T series):

  • OnePlus One - April 2014.
  • OnePlus 2 - July 2015.
  • OnePlus 3 - June 2016.
  • OnePlus 5 - June 2017.
  • OnePlus 6 - May 2018.

As you can see, there is a clear pattern ... they showed up around the middle of the year. Interestingly, last year's May announcement of the OnePlus 6 coincided with the OnePlus One launch in 2014.

We expect OnePlus to announce the OnePlus 7 in late spring or early summer. At the recent Qualcomm Technology Summit in Hawaii, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has officially confirmed that the company's next flagship phone will be launched early 2025 of the year.

Perhaps we will see another launch in May or even in April. There is also a small chance that OnePlus could unveil the OnePlus 7 at MWC 2019 in late February.

OnePlus 7 price

The OnePlus 6 launched last year with a starting price of € 469. Before that, in 2017, the OnePlus 5 started at 449 euros.

Since the beginning of sales, OnePlus 3 cost only 309 euros (after a while its cost quickly increased to 329), OnePlus 2 was on sale for 289 euros, and OnePlus, one of the first, in 2014 could be bought for only 229 euros.

There's a clear trend here, with each successive flagship phone, OnePlus has sold it for more than the last. But after the big price jump from version 3 to version 5 (not including the OnePlus 4), things have leveled off a bit.

Another factor that should be mentioned before we speculate the cost of the future flagship is that the OnePlus 6T sold even more at 499 euros.

If asked about the reasonable price of the OnePlus 7, we would recommend leaving it at the same level as the 6T: 499 euros. The OnePlus brand is still valued by its customers, as the flagship-level phone idea is based on options that cost almost half the price of similar solutions from Apple and Samsung.

There is a chance that we will see another price increase, but even if that happens, the cost of the base version is unlikely to exceed 570 euros too much.

Most likely, you will have to pay more for the 5G version. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau told The Verge that customers will have to pay $ 200-300 more for the premium version. Of course, for this price, the smartphone will get the maximum possible configuration.

Performance OnePlus 7

It's worth considering why OnePlus was attending the Qualcomm tech summit in Hawaii. The manufacturer was to announce a partnership with a major chip maker and the OnePlus 7 should be the first smartphone to use the new Snapdragon 855 processor.

This chip is built using a smaller 7nm process, so it's logical to assume that it will be significantly faster and more efficient than the 2018 Snapdragon 845.

We've already seen some performance improvements on the Apple A12 and Kirin 980, both of which outperform the Snapdragon 845 on key metrics.

OnePlus always bundles its smartphones with ample RAM. The latest version of the smartphone is likely to come in either 6GB or 8GB, but the most optimistic supporters suggest OnePlus could go further.

A recent forecast from McLaren suggests 10GB of RAM. Will the manufacturer go with the OnePlus 7?

OnePlus 7 design and display

Back in January, SlashLeaks provided a leaked image of the mysterious OnePlus device in a form disguise case.

Interestingly, the image shows a smartphone with a perfectly smooth screen. So where does the front camera go, you ask? The body above the phone seems to indicate a slider mechanism that will give you the ability to take selfies.
The question is: is it a prototype, a ready-made OnePlus 7, or a completely separate 5G model?

We don't see the back of the smartphone, but we expect the glass to be used again, like the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. When it comes to display sizes, we expect OnePlus to stick to the standards and use 6.5-inch AMOLED.

The company could make the leap towards QHD resolution, especially if the screen gets bigger. But traditionally the company has been reluctant to enlarge the screen, sacrificing battery life and performance.
The Snapdragon 855 will most likely be on board, though who knows?

OnePlus 7 outstanding features

  1. The main feature of the Snapdragon 855 CPU will be 5G support via the built-in X50 LTE modem.
  2. Indeed, during the aforementioned Qualcomm Tech Summit in Hawaii, OnePlus announced that they would be the first company to launch a 5G smartphone in 2025 year.
  3. Co-founder Pete Lau also tweeted the deal with EE, which means it will be the first 5G device in Europe.
  4. It is expected to be a high-end phone, although given the limited 5G coverage and the premium price that will have to be paid for it, the smartphone is not likely to gain high popularity.
  5. We can also expect the OnePlus 7 to have a fingerprint sensor built into the OnePlus 6T - hopefully faster and more efficient.
